Hullio uses industry-standard identity verification, secure payment processing, and fraud monitoring to help reduce risk for renters and boat owners.

For Renters

Identity Verification

All renters must bring valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID) to boat handover. The ID must match your booking name. Owners may refuse handover if ID is not provided or does not match.

For select bookings, Hullio may require additional identity verification powered by Stripe. This is determined at Hullio's discretion to protect boat owners and prevent fraud. When required, verification takes just a few minutes and your documents are handled securely by Stripe—Hullio never stores your ID.

Secure Payments

All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses. Your payment information is never stored on Hullio servers.

Fuel & Security Hold

When fuel is excluded, Hullio places a refundable Security Hold before the trip. After the trip, the owner can submit the actual fuel cost. We attempt to capture it from the hold, and if the hold is no longer valid we may charge the saved card. You'll always see a clear breakdown.

On-Platform Records

Keep all communication on Hullio. Our messaging system creates a record that helps resolve issues if any arise during your rental.

For Boat Owners

Renter Identity Verification

All renters must present valid government-issued photo ID at handover that matches their booking name. You may refuse to complete handover if ID is not provided or does not match.

For select bookings, Hullio may require additional platform-based identity verification, providing clearer identity signals about who's booking your boat.

Payment Handling

Hullio handles on-platform payments so you don't have to deal directly with card processors. If a payment issue arises, we work through the Stripe process and keep you updated.

Owner Verification

All owners complete identity verification through Stripe Connect before they can accept bookings and receive payouts.

Security Deposits

Set your own Security Hold amounts. Holds are placed via Stripe pre-authorization and may be used for fuel (if excluded) or documented issues after the trip.

How We Support and Document Bookings

What We Don't Do

We believe in honest communication. Hullio:

  • Does not eliminate fraud or chargebacks
  • Does not store identity documents (Stripe handles this securely)
  • Does not run background checks or verify licensing unless explicitly stated
  • Does not decide weather cancellations (owners/operators decide)
  • Does not act as a legal arbitrator
  • Does not provide insurance (third-party insurers do)

Our role is to provide tools and process support—not to promise outcomes.
