When Plans Change, There's a Process

Deposits, damage, cancellations, and payouts all follow a structured flow.

Security Deposits

Owners set their own deposit amount. The renter’s card is authorized before the trip, but the deposit is held — not charged. If the trip ends without a documented claim, the hold is released.

Damage Claims

If there is damage, the owner can submit a claim with photos, a description, and an amount. The renter has 72 hours to accept or dispute with their own evidence. If disputed, Hullio reviews both sides before any decision is made.

Cancellations

Each listing shows its cancellation policy clearly. Refunds are calculated based on the published policy and booking timing. If an owner cancels or the boat becomes unavailable, the renter receives a full refund including the platform fee. Where relevant, weather conditions can also support cancellation decisions based on safety and evidence.

Payments and Payouts

Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Owners receive payouts through Stripe after trip completion. If additional approved charges apply, such as fuel or a resolved claim, they are handled through the same structured on-platform flow.

How can Hullio charge just $5.99?+

Hullio was built intentionally lean. Instead of scaling revenue through percentage commissions, we charge a clear $5.99 per booking side. We do not operate on a high-burn, high-commission model. We keep the platform focused and efficient so pricing stays predictable for both renters and owners. This does not mean cutting corners. Payments are processed securely through Stripe, bookings remain on-platform, and structured support and dispute workflows are built into the system. Our goal is simple: get more people on the water without layering on unnecessary costs. We believe the rental market does not need another percentage platform. It needs a simpler one.

What does the $5.99 fee cover?+

It supports on-platform checkout, booking records, messaging tools, and support and dispute workflows. It does not include taxes, deposits, captain fees, fuel, or owner-defined charges.

Is payment secure?+

Yes. Payments are processed through Stripe. Booking requests are authorized first and captured when approved under Hullio’s booking flow.

What happens if a booking is canceled?+

Each listing displays its cancellation policy. Renter cancellations follow the selected policy. Owner or mechanical cancellations provide a full renter refund, including the platform fee.

Does Hullio include insurance?+

Hullio does not currently sell or arrange trip insurance in the booking flow. Boat owners are responsible for maintaining required insurance.

What happens if there is a damage claim?+

The owner submits a claim with photos, a description, and an amount within 48 hours of the trip ending. The renter is notified and has 72 hours to accept or dispute the claim with their own evidence. If disputed, the Hullio team reviews the documentation from both sides before deciding whether to approve, deny, or partially approve the claim. Only documented, resolved claims result in a charge to the renter’s card.
